Nokia and Motorola have already made their presence felt in the cheap mobile segment. Now, South Korean tech giants Samsung is planning to expand their products to target this huge market for cheap mobile phones.
The company said in a statement that they plan to start selling cheap cell phones in the market, which is big enough to attract some of the biggest player in the mobile sector. Market analysts believe that this market is expected to see sales of as many as 816 million units a year.
Samsung is the world’s third largest mobile phone maker after Nokia and Motorola and till now have focused on higher end and medium segment phones. Samsung’s European mobile communications chief Juha Park said in a statement on the company’s plans: “We’re looking into that segment. We’re doing it now. But we want to go into that market in a very controlled way. We won’t enter into that bloody competition right away.”
However, they are not going to release very cheap phones and want to maintain a basic feature set for all of their phones which are bother affordable and usable.
