US put India on list to watch for copyright piracy
India is one of the 12 nations which have been placed on the United States’ Copyright Piracy List. The US government would now target these nations for extra scrutiny in the piracy of digital media originating in the country.
This would include movies, music, software applications and other copyrighted material. U.S. Trade Representative Susan C. Schwab spoke on this new development while announcing the list: “We must defend ideas, inventions and creativity from rip-off artists and thieves.”
The US administration has already filed two new trade cases against China before the World Trade Organization in relation to the blatant piracy in the country.
The list of nations includes Argentina, Chile, Egypt, India, Israel, Lebanon, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and Venezuela in addition to Russia and China.
The government said that Thailand has been added to this list as they believe the country is now allowing “deteriorating protection for patents and copyrights.”
