Reger Levy is the new head of Novell Open Platform Solutions business unit

Novell has announced that they are appointing former Lucent Technologies Inc. executive Reger Levy to run its Linux and open-source business unit. The company also promoted two other executives.

Reger Levy as a result would now head the Open Platform Solutions business unit and would directly report to Jeff Jaffe, executive vice-president and chief technology officer. He replaces David Patrick, who according to Lucent will “be pursuing interests outside of Novell”.

The company has recently seen a drop in its new-license revenue from its Open Enterprise Server (OES) bundle but has renewed the consumer interest by launching new and more capable versions of their Linux distributions.

Novell has also promoted senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Bill Hewitt to president of Novell Asia-Pacific. He takes over from Rhonda O’Donnell, who will assume the newly created position of non-executive chairperson for Novell Asia-Pacific.
