Microsoft acquiring mobile phone advertising company ScreenTonic
Software giant Microsoft has confirmed that they are acquiring European mobile phone advertising company ScreenTonic.
With this acquisition Microsoft aims to gain a strong foothold in the emerging mobile advertising market. Yahoo and Google are already in that market with their mobile ad solutions.
Microsoft did not reveal how much they paid for the company.
ScreenTonic is based in Paris and market analysts say that they were one of the first companies in Europe to develop a platform to manage and place ads on the mobile Internet.
Steve Berkowitz, senior vice president at Microsoft’s online services group spoke on this acquisition deal: “The acquisition of ScreenTonic will be part of our long-term strategy to deliver ad experiences that map to the (mobile Internet).”
