SAP planning to acquire OutlookSoft Corp.

Business software maker SAP AG has announced their plans to acquire OutlookSoft Corp. The company has been quite active in the market looking for potential companies to acquire as they face immense challenge from the database company Oracle which is increasingly becoming a larger player in their market.

Incidentally, Oracle too has just recently completed $3.3 billion acquisition of Hyperion Solutions Corp. Hyperion is primarily in the same market covered by OutlookSoft’s products.

Forrester Research analyst Paul Hammerman has said in a report that the deal could be worth as much as $200 million. OutlookSoft has around 700 customers and 250 employees. SAP hopes to complete the acquisition deal by June this year.

Hammerman added that he believes that SAP got interested in OutlookSoft after Oracle bought Hyperion.

Incidentally, SAP and Oracle are also involved in legal hassles as Oracle had recently accused SAP of resorting to dirty tricks to steal its customers.
