Samsung Electronics considering expanding production of mobile phones outside South Korea

South Korean tech giant Samsung has said that they are considering expanding the mobile phone production capabilities at their plants outside their home market.

But the company added that they have no plans to move its main phone production base overseas.

Samsung is considering opening new plants in several locations including China, India, and Brazil. Incidentally, the company already has plants in these countries.

The Chosun Ilbo national daily newspaper in South Korea claimed in a report that Samsung’s new plant would be based in Vietnam and would have a capacity to manufacture 100 million handsets per year. It further claimed that the company would make this new unit their primary mobile phone manufacturing plant.

The company is also expected to focus more on cheaper affordable phones for the emerging markets like India and China. This segment is where the numbers are and this is where Nokia and Motorola are stronger than Samsung.
