Thailand’s music industry making it big in Japan
Thai music is making it big in the Japanese market. The music industry from Thailand is taking advantage of the fact that the Japanese people are big users of digital music stores available online have used it to their advantage to introduce new artists. They now hope to make Thai music popular all around the world.
GMM Grammy Plc was one of the first companies to target the Japanese market with the launch of a digital music video download service in November. They have collaborated with Japanese online shopping mall Rakuten who have accumulated as many as 890 “T-Pop” titles which the Japanese fans can download for as little as 113 yen. This video is accessible for 30 days.
As per incoming reports, as many as 700 Japanese fans download Thai music videos every day and this is expected to increase many folds as the company plans to add on more content from even more variety of singers from Thailand. Shinsuke Takagi, deputy head of GMM Grammy International said in a statement on their plans: “This is the right time to introduce Thai music to the Japanese market. Thailand has a big music industry, with more than 100 successful singers, but it didn’t have the opportunity to enter a huge market like Japan.”
They have further plans to expand their offering to Apple’s iTunes Music Store in Japan later this year to get a wider user base who owns the hugely popular Apple iPod device.
