Indian budget airline companies capture 27 per cent market share

Travelers in India have really shown a liking for the budget airline companies in the Indian market. The latest figures coming in claims that low-cost airlines now command a market share of 27 per cent in domestic skies.

These figures have been released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA and it indicates that the combined share of Air Deccan, Kingfisher Airlines, and SpiceJet is nearly as much as the government-owned Indian (Airlines).

Indian had a market share of around 25 per cent in the month of January for domestic traveling customers. Jet Airways, which recently acquired competitor Air Sahara is the market leaders with a market share of 34.7 per cent. Air Sahara on its own had a market share of 11 per cent.

Air Deccan has now overtaken Air Sahara to become the third largest airline in India with a 13.3 per cent share of the air traveler market. In comparison, Kingfisher Airlines ended the month with a 7.6 per cent share and SpiceJet took six per cent of the market.
