Motorola to acquire Modulus Video
World’s second largest mobile phone maker Motorola has announced that they are acquiring privately held Modulus Video Inc. for an undisclosed sum.
Modulus Video specializes in developing advanced video coding compression systems. These are used in delivering video streams over Internet Protocol TV, cable, broadcast and satellite television.
Dan Moloney, president of Schaumburg-based Motorola’s home and networks mobility business spoke on this new acquiring decision: “As consumers demand more high definition video and interactive services, the need for advanced compression technology is increasingly important.”
Motorola further said that this new acquisition would complement their previously acquired companies including Broadbus, Kreatel, Tut Systems and Netopia. Using their expertise, Motorola plans to work on developing and providing an integrated video delivery systems for multiple types of networks.
The two companies have been working together since the last two years.
