PC Sales to slow down in 2006: Gartner

Market Research Company Gartner has suggested that the shipments of personal computers in the world’s markets will grow at a slower pace in 2006 than in 2005. They blame this on the replacement cycle of the computers which has somewhat reached a saturation point now.

As per Gartner, PC shipments in 2006 are expected to reach 234.5 million units. This would be just around 10.7 percent up compared to 2005. This is quite a drop from the 15.5 percent rate at which the market grew last year.

This year is also expected to show a massive growth in the sales of mobile computers in the markets around the world. But, the slow sales of personal computers would more than compensate for that fast growth.

Gartner has also claimed that the sales growth might take a further hit if Microsoft continues to delay the launch of their upcoming Windows Vista operating system. This is because many prospective customers might delay buying new computers waiting for Vista to launch in the market.
