European Parliament approves the plans to cut roaming charges in the region
The European Parliament has now officially approved the plans which are aimed to cut the roaming charges applied on the mobile users in the European Union countries.
These measures could cut the charges by as much as 70% and these plans have been massively opposed by the telecom players in the region.
The approval by the parliament would help the EU telecommunications ministers to finalize the plans at their upcoming June 7 meeting in Luxembourg.
They are aiming to have these plans applied over the summer travel period so that the consumers can get the benefit immediately.
EU Telecommunications Commissioner Viviane Reding spoke on these new developments: “This means that already from this summer, mobile phone customers will start benefiting from substantially reduced roaming charges when traveling from one EU country to another. Europe’s internal market will finally become truly borderless, even for mobile phone bills.”
