Southwest Airlines raises fares by USD 10
Southwest Airlines has reportedly raised its highest fares by $10 each way over the weekend. This is the biggest hike of its kind by the airline company. This also showcases that airline companies in the United States can finally charge more without worrying for consumer protests.
With this hike, Southwest Airlines also ended the $299 one-way fare cap that has been in place for nearly four years. The new cap for the company now stands at $309 each way, or $618 round trip.
These are the highest prices for a fully refundable ticket for consumers traveling on mostly longer routes, such as Phoenix to the East Coast and other cities. These refundable tickets are mostly ordered by business people who tend to travel on short notices and keep buffer tickets in advance.
Southwest Airline seems to have raised the prices considering the demand for airline travel is rising after a long time when the market took a beating due to the 911 incident. Higher prices for aviation fuel are also another reason for such a hike in the ticket prices.
