Air India Express, Alliance Air to merge operations

Air India chairman and managing director V Thulsidas has announced that Air India Express will assume responsibilities as the low-cost carrier (LCC) for the newly merged entity Air India.

He said: “Alliance Air and Air India Express will join as one company, called Air India Express, which will operate as low-cost carrier on domestic as well as international routes.”

He was speaking at the occasion of Air India Express inducting the seventh Boeing 737-800 in its fleet.

With this new addition, the airline’s fleet size has now reached 14 crafts seven of which are leased with the rest owned by the company.

Thulsidas further said that they aim to have 25 aircraft by next year in the fleet of this low cost airline operator in the country.

Some of these planes would come from the existing Air India Express, and will also include the leased ones.
