Nanjing Automobile opens up the MG Factory in England
Chinese car maker Nanjing Automobile has finally reopened the legendary MG factory located in Longbridge, England.
This plant was closed when Britain’s MG Rover went bankrupt in 2005. Nanjing made sure that the opening ceremony was special.
They held a special ceremony at Longbridge in Birmingham to mark the reopening of the plant.
Nanjing chief executive officer Yu Jian Wei spoke about the brand which they would be manufacturing now: “The U.K. is home to MG and it has a profound affection for MG. MG is the pride of the British people. It has a glorious past.”
He further said: “Longbridge has an irreplaceable role in the MG project – it is front line of our internationalization strategy. This is the rebirth of MG.”
Nanjing aims to have around 250 people working at this plant by the end of this year. At the time of closing, MG plant had around 6000 people working in it.
