IBM cuts around 1500 jobs in their operations in United States
US based tech giant IBM has revealed that they have laid off about 1,570 employees in its computer services business in the United States.
These job cuts are part of their cost cutting measures being implemented in their operations worldwide.
This latest information means that the company has this year eliminated about 1,300 jobs in the US services business.
IBM said that it was cutting costs in the United States amid weaker US demand for its services and products in the first quarter.
IBM spokesman John Bukovinsky added: “The services business is tremendously cyclical. This is basically the result of (clients) looking over longer-term contracts and deciding they don’t want the work done, or deciding they can do the work with fewer people.”
He further clarified that these jobs are not being moved to lower-cost labor markets such as India.
