Toyota could use India as their small car manufacturing hub
World’s second largest automaker Toyota knows the importance of the Indian automobile market where small cars dominate the sales chart.
Toyota has been a minor player in the market. They have some big plans for India. Toyota is said to be considering making India their manufacturing hub for small cars.
They could use India as the market to manufacture a small car which could be sold here and also could be exported to international markets including Brazil and other Asian countries.
This small car would be crucial for Toyota’s ambitions to expand sales in the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) markets.
KK Swamy, deputy managing director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor was quoted as saying to the media personals: “At this moment, we are studying the market and the final decision has not yet been taken. It’s also too premature to discuss whether the small car will be from the Daihatsu or Toyota stable.”
Toyota has already said that they are aiming to achieve a 10% market share in India by the end of the current decade. With Maruti dominating the Indian automotive market, Toyota would need a solid product in the compact car segment to do wonders for them.
