Chevrolet Spark helps GM India post improved sales
GM India launched their most ambitious model Chevrolet Spark in the Indian market recently. Spark has shown its magic and has helped GM India post impressive sales results.
The company has said that they are expecting their sales to improve to 66,000 units this year from 35,000 units in the previous year.
GM India is also going to be benefited with the capacity addition at its Halol (Gujarat) plant. They enhanced the manufacturing capacity of this plant from 60,000 units in April to 85,000.
Rajeev Chaba, president and managing director, GM India added on their expectations from the Indian market: “We could have achieved sales of 85,000 this year but due to the staggered launch of various cars — Aveo UVA, Spark and Optra Diesel — we are targeting sales of 66,000 units.”
P Balendran, director and vice-president, (corporate affairs), GM India had this to say about Spark: “We have delivery backlog for 1,500-2,000 Sparks. However, with new capacity, we will be able to clear this backlog soon. This year, we expect to sell 18,000-19,000 Sparks.”
GM India has also just launched the diesel variant of their Optra sedan in the Indian market which takes on the Diesel Octavia in the premium segment.
