NTT DoCoMo interested in Vietnam, China and India
NTT DoCoMo has said that they are planning to make a “sizable” investment in the booming markets of Vietnam, China or India.
With this the company is changing its policy of not investing big in overseas markets after they suffered major losses in botched investments six years ago.
Masao Nakamura, president of DoCoMo said in a statement that they need to expand outside their home market to boost revenues and profitability.
He said: “Vietnam, India and China are rapidly growing markets and, if we are going to make an investment, it will be sizable Our focus is Asia. Overseas revenues will drive our growth in the future.”
Nakamura further said: “Vietnam is the hottest market in the future but [the government] would only allow a minority stake holding. I think it would be unrealistic to acquire over 50 per cent in an Asian operator from day one. Even if we started with a small stake holding, it doesn’t mean we would rule out increasing our stake – we want to take a long-term approach in Asia.”
