Nissan Renault developing a USD 3000 car for India

Renault has already launched their low cost Logan sedan in the Indian market. The company along with Nissan are now working on another low cost car for India.

This car is likely to cost just around USD 3000 which would put it in direct competition to Tata Motor’s upcoming Rs. 1 lakh car.

Maruti Suzuki could become another major player in this market if they launch a cheaper variant of their Maruti 800 product.

Nissan Renault Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn said in a statement: “We will be part of this competition. We are investigating, at the level of the alliance, how we can make a $3,000 car.”

He added that they are working on gathering information to see how and whether it could be done. They could even work with an Indian automaker to develop this car to sell it in India.

It is unlikely however that the company would sell the same product in their other markets.
