Ford could launch a small car in India by next year
Market sources have revealed that Ford India is planning to launch a small car in the Indian market by the end of next year.
The company could develop this new car on their existing Ikon or Fiesta platforms for a hatchback.
Ford could also even tweak the new car model KA that it is developing jointly with Fiat in Europe.
Sources claim that this new car has been codenamed B402.
Ford India president and MD Arvind Mathew has however clarified that they are not bringing the KA to the Indian market: “It is very speculative to say that Ford will bring the new KA to India. We have no plans of getting the car that is being jointly produced by Fiat Europe and Ford Europe to India.”
Fiat India MD Giovanni De Filippis had this to say: “Fiat and Ford have signed an MoU in Europe to produce a new small car. I cannot comment on whether Ford will get this car to India but as of now, we have no plans of getting it to India.”
They might deny it but the thing is clear that the company would have to launch a small car in India to generate the numbers to stay competitive.
