Sprint Nextel to now concentrate on promoting their speed and data services

With AT&T and Apple coming out with the Apple iPhone mobile phone product, rival mobile service providers are working hard on strategies to counter the effect of this new product.

Sprint Nextel is one of the many players in the US market who would have to face the challenge posed by the iPhone which is being exclusively offered by AT&T in the US market.

The company has said that they are working on a new advertising campaign that would highlight their advance services which are much better than AT&T’s.

They would work on highlighting their speed and data services and the new campaign is scheduled to be launched today.

Bill Morgan, a senior vice president for corporate marketing at Sprint Nextel said: “Our network’s a proven commodity … People should expect that. They should be getting much more than that.”

Sprint’s EV-DO and EV-DO Rev A data services are much superior to AT&T’s EDGE. But iphone comes with 802.11 capabilities in addition to AT&T’s EDGE. Although iphone users who use it primarily for entertainment will just use the 802.11 connection, business customers will probably not switch to iphone because AT&T’s low rate data connectivity may cost them more than just the 500 bucks they will pay for the iphone!

Even on Sprint’s 1x network the speeds are about the same as Cingular’s EDGE. cingular adverages around 60 to 120Kbps, Sprint’s 1x adverages are about the same. Sprint’s EV-DO has been proven to be faster then Verizon’s EV-DO. Verizon released a statement stating this. Cingular has not gotten anywhere near the speeds with their WCDMA as they claimed before they built it out. The iPhone is a fad device. It cost $600 and $50 a month for PDA data access. Sprint only changes $15 and they have better PDA’s.
On top of all of it Sprint is truly unlimited data, while both Verizon and Cingular have a cap (That they don’t tell you about until it is too late!!)

Sprint is doing the right thing, they just need to keep it up.
