Reserve Bank of India tells Indian banks to maintain a ‘Do Not Call’ Registry
For banking customers who are tired of getting unwanted calls from banks and credit card companies, this is good news.
The Reserve Bank of India has now told the Indian Banks to maintain a ‘Do Not Call’ Registry about credit card operations.
This step has been taken by the RBI to tackle the growing problem of unsolicited commercial communications.
The RBI has told the banks not to engage telemarketers in this field who have not registered themselves with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) as telemarketers.
The RBI further said that the banks should furnish the list of telemarketers engaged by them along with the registered telephone numbers being used by them for making telemarketing calls to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
