Sony might spin off four units
Entertainment industry giants Sony Entertainment is reportedly aiming at selling off sizeable stakes in four “non-core” businesses. This includes selling off parts of a retail outlet and a French restaurant, which were launched by the late Sony founder Akio Morita.
These four units under consideration for selling off by the company includes importer-retailer Sony Plaza Co., cosmetics maker B&C Laboratories Inc., French-restaurant chain Maxim’s de Paris Corp., and mail order firm Sony Family Club Inc. However, these are just rumors in the market and the company has not confirmed any of these.
If the company indeed goes ahead with these deals, it would bring in several tens of billions of yen for the company, which is now aiming at limiting its focus on electronics and other core businesses. The company has said in a statement a couple of months back that they are indeed looking at deals, which would help it maximize the value of the assets.
The reports coming in from sources claim that the company is aiming at selling off at least 50% stake in all these four units.
