E.W. Scripps Co. acquires uSwitch.com
E.W. Scripps Co. has announced their plans to acquire the British company uSwitch.com. The deal is worth around $366 million. uSwitch.com is a service, which provides specialized Internet searches by enabling customers to compare rates on gas, electricity, home phone, digital television, broadband, credit cards, and personal loans.
This is just the latest step taken by E.W. Scripps Co. to expand its business into the online comparison shopping market. Interestingly uSwitch.com provides its service for free to the online customers and the revenues are generated from commissions paid by participating service providers.
E.W. Scripps Co. on the other hand made big news last year when they acquired online comparison shopping company Shopzilla.com for $525 million. Tim Peterman, senior vice president of interactive media for Scripps would be looking after the operations of these two companies, which are now part of the Scripps group.
