Microsoft reports improved profit figures
Microsoft has just posted their most recent quarterly figures. The company said fourth-quarter earnings rose 7.3 percent.
The figures were not that impressive as they had recently revealed their Xbox division would take a USD 1 billion dollar hit due to enhanced warranty on the Xbox 360 gaming console.
Microsoft reported that their net income increased to $3.04 billion, or 31 cents a share. This is up from $2.83 billion, or 28 cents, a year earlier in the same period.
The sales were up 13 percent to $13.4 billion which managed to beat the market expectations.
Microsoft’s gaming division itself has now lost more than $5 billion in five years for the company. Market analysts are now questioning whether the decision to challenge Sony and Nintendo was worth it or not.
The company however has said that they are hoping to make this division profitable in the near future. The recent Xbox announcement is likely to delay it even more.
