Philips Electronics to fix faulty flat panel plasma TV sets in US
Holland based Philips Electronics has confirmed that they would be making house calls to repair almost 12,000 flat panel plasma TV sets sold in the United States as a fault in them leads to overheating.
The company has said that they have received several confirmed instances of such overheating television sets though their has been no risk to life or property. Philips claimed that materials used in the television sets were all flame retardant and there was no risk that they would catch fire.
A company representative said in a statement: “As a precaution we’ll go to the consumers and replace the component. There’s no fire risk.” Philips has however not revealed how much this exercise is expected to cost them.
They would be contacting the affected consumers directly. Philips has notified that the problem exists in 42-inch and 50-inch (127 cm) sets and only affects the consumers who purchased the television sets in the US.

I bought a 42″ Philip Plasma TV two years ago and now it is dead. I would not recommend Philips to anyone who wants to by a HD TV.
