Apple post improved figures as sales of Mac helps
Apple was expected to post impressive sales figure for their recently launched Apple iPhone mobile phone.
That did not happen. But the company still managed to post a higher quarterly profit on Wednesday.
The company posted an unexpected rise in its profit margin as they saw strong sales of their Mac computers.
Apple also sold 270,000 iPhones during the period.
Chief Executive Steve Jobs added in a statement that they had expected to sell a million iPhones by the end of the first full quarter of sales.
Shannon Cross, an analyst at Cross Research had this to say about this latest Apple revenue report: “Apple destroyed numbers for this quarter. Its Mac numbers were very strong and above expectations. Guidance on the EPS (earnings per share) was weaker than expected but the question is what are they factoring into that. Their gross margin at 37 percent was extremely strong and bodes well for HP and Dell from a commodity-price perspective.”
The company shipped 1.76 million Macintosh computers in the quarter. They also managed to ship around 9.82 million iPods.
