Bharti retail stores to start opening by the middle of next year
Bharti Group has said in a statement that they plan to open its first retail store in India by the middle of next year.
The company has partnered the world’s largest retailing company Wal-Mart to launch their retail operations in the Indian market.
This latest announcement by the company means that their launch plans have been somewhat delayed.
Bharti Group chairman Sunil Mittal said in a statement that they aim to open 200 large stores in the next seven years.
The company already operates the India’s largest mobile network with millions of mobile customers.
Market analysts believe that this delayed launch would make it hard for the company to find the best sites to open up their stores as Reliance has already started opening their Retail and Fresh branded stores throughout the country. Aditya Birla Group is also aiming to become a major player in this segment of the market.
Mittal had this to say on the developments going on: “We are hiring people, looking at real estate and the back-end supply chain is being organized. A lot of work is going on in that area.”
