Nokia performing well as Motorola struggles

World’s largest mobile phone maker Nokia has come out with their latest quarterly report and the company has reported a 148 percent surge in second quarter net earnings.

The company further boosted their position as the world’s number one mobile phone provider.

Nokia’s net earnings came to 2.8 billion Euros. This is a major improvement from 1.1 billion in second quarter 2006.

The sales were also up 28 percent to 12.6 billion Euros. Nokia further claimed that their market share in the mobile phone segment has now risen to 38 percent from 34 percent in second quarter 2006.

Nokia said that they sold 100.8 million phones between April and June. This itself is an improvement of 29 percent increase on a yearly basis.

Nokia Chief Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said on this improved performance: “I am particularly encouraged by the success of a number of recently launched higher-end devices, which made a strong contribution to increased profitability.”
