IBM acquires Language Analysis Systems
US based tech company IBM (International Business Machines Corporation) has announced their decision to acquire Language Analysis Systems, which specializes in multicultural name recognition technology.
The two companies have declined to reveal the details of the financial transaction behind this acquisition. Speech technology is one of the key areas where IBM has been working on since couple of years and they would be incorporating the LAS team into its analytics group.
This would further add to the capabilities IBM gained by acquiring AlphaBlox and SRD. Language Analysis Systems says about their capabilities: “LAS technology verifies the origin, cultural variations and meaning of names by comparing and analyzing factors commonly associated with nearly one billion names from around the world, including nicknames, titles, format changes and typographical errors.”
IBM has said that they would be using their expertise in developing services to fight identity theft and fraud.
