Microsoft to spend big on challenging IBM’s consultancy model
World’s largest software company Microsoft has plans to spend big on marketing their software model to take on the challenge provided by IBM and their consultancy and services model. Microsoft has said that they would spend $US500 million over the next year trying to persuade businesses to use its software rather than depend on IBM consultants.
IBM has successfully moved from developing software solutions to provide software consultancy helping businesses to migrate to open source alternatives to Microsoft’s products prevailing in the market.
Microsoft plans to renew the challenge by offering new versions of their operating system and office suite products sometime later this year. Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer showcased these new products at a press event in New York. He added that these applications would help customers perform tasks for which they currently pay IBM to perform through their services.
Ballmer said: “Getting the most out of their people is on the mind of every business leader I speak with. (We) are passionate about the idea that the right software can provide the tools to empower workers to become the drivers of business success.”
