JAVA is the new ticker symbol for Sun Microsystems
Sun Microsystems has announced that they are now going to change their ticker symbol to JAVA on the stock exchange.
The company revealed that they are going to retire its SUNW moniker on NASDAQ and replace with JAVA effective Monday.
JAVA is one of the most popular and recognized technologies developed by Sun Microsystems.
Sun chief executive Jonathan Schwartz said in a statement on this development: “The number of people who know Java swamps the number of people who know Sun. Or SUNW.”
The company added in its release: “As Sun’s most pervasive software offering, Java is the symbol of Sun’s ability to develop market-leading innovations with a global reach. This change helps to harness the power and recognition of that brand to drive further awareness and opportunity for Sun.”
