Proton Holdings collaborates with JinHua QingNian

Malaysian carmaker Proton Holdings Bhd is rumored to have gone into collaboration with JinHua QingNian, a homegrown motor group in China. Proton is aiming to expand their offerings in the Chinese market, which is one of the fastest growing auto-markets in the world.

Proton is also said to be talking with another Chinese automotive company Chery that recently became the first Chinese company to showcase their products in a top American auto show.

Rumors claims that the Proton’s top management in mid-January visited QingNian’s headquarters in Zhejiang province’s JinHua city in china. This might be the first step for Proton to launch their vehicles in the Chinese market.

China’s sedan market saw a growth of 20% last year and this is expected to continue growing for many years to come. This has led to many European and American automakers to set their bases here.

A Proton representative was quoted by China Business News, a financial newspaper, as saying: “Proton would sell completely knocked-down (CKD) packs to QingNian, which will assemble the imported CKDs and sell under its own brand name.”
