NTT DoCoMo acquires two cellular companies in Guam
Japanese top mobile service providers NTT DoCoMo have confirmed that they have acquired two cellular companies in Guam. The deal is worth close to around 71.8 million dollars and is part of the group’s plan to expand their service base in other countries around the world.
NTT DoCoMo added that they would be setting up a wholly owned holding company to acquire Guam Cellular Inc. This would be followed by acquiring the complete assets of Guam Wireless Telephone Co. NTT DoCoMo would then merge the two entities.
The company would then also provide up to 6.5 million dollars to boost the new company in the US territory. The larger goal is to eventually start third-generation (3G) services in these markets.
NTT DoCoMo said in a statement: “The acquisitions will enable DoCoMo to better serve many Japanese travelers who visit Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, and enable the islands’ residents to benefit from DoCoMo’s world-leading mobile technology.”
However, this deal would require the approval from the federal and regulatory authorities.
