MTV Network set to expand their online presence
MTV Networks has announced that they are working on launching two dozen new Web sites based on its shows.
The company also plans to launch an online destination containing the entire video archives of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” with comedian Jon Stewart.
The launch of these new sites would be part of their strategy to expand their digital media businesses.
They estimate that these web sites along with their other digital media operations would generate well above $500 million in revenues this year.
With these new sites, the company would have a network of more than 300 sites by the end of the year.
Mike Salmi, president of digital media had this to say on these new plans: “We’re taking an open approach with our content on the Web, allowing our consumers to share, embed, influence and interact with everything they see on-air and online. Our viewers become producers, consumers and participants because we let them cast themselves online for our TV shows, upload content and videos, or actually become their favorite cast members through our virtual worlds.”
