Viacom makes an entry into India’s Film Industry

US-based media group Viacom has announced their plans to enter movie production business in Bollywood and they would be producing feature as well as animated movies in collaboration with domestic partners.

Viacom chief operating officer Tom Freston said in a statement while on a visit to Mumbai: “I am here to discuss with various stakeholders. I expect to finish the talks within few days from now. By the next 10-12 months, we would begin production here.”

They are not new to the Indian market as they are the operators of television channels like the MTV. The company plans to initially work on an English film project and subsequently venture into Indian language films.

Freston added on their plans: “As a global media platform company, we are looking at various projects in many parts of the world. Presently, we are aiming to reconstitute some of our ailing subsidiaries. We plan to restrengthen our distribution network. Once, this task is completed; we would focus on newer entertainment markets like Germany and India.”
