Sony set to launch an OLED technology based ultra-thin flat TV
Sony is set to launch a new ultra-thin flat TV based on OLED technology to prove their technical expertise in this field.
This new product would compete in the thin TV market which is currently dominated by LCD and plasma TV products.
Sony claims that they would be the first company to launch a product based on this new technology.
They are going to sell the 11-inch OLED TV model in the market for around 200,000 yen.
Sony added that these television set would be energy efficient and would offer crisp pictures.
Sony Executive Deputy President Katsumi Ihara spoke about the OLED technology: “I don’t think OLED TVs will replace LCD TVs overnight. But I do believe this is a type of technology with very high potential, something that will come after LCD TVs.”
Even at this high price, Sony is expected to make a loss on the products as they are aiming to prove the technology first.
