Air travel in India to become costlier

Oil companies in India have increased the prices of the aviation turbine fuel by around 4.2%. This has resulted in a situation where most airline companies would have to hike the prices of air tickets.

Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum all announced on Monday that they are hiking the price of ATF from Rs 38,163 per kilo liter to Rs 39,768 per kilo liter in Delhi.

SpiceJet CEO Siddhanta Sharma had this to say on this price hike: “We are not in a position to absorb any more burden; hence, it will be passed on. There will be a proportional increase in the airfares effective from Wednesday. We are still evaluating the impact of ATF price increase on passenger fares.”

Kingfisher Airlines executive vice-president A Raghunathan added: “We will take a call on fuel price hike tomorrow.”
