BBC Worldwide acquires stake in Lonely Planet travel guides

BBC Worldwide has announced that they have acquired a 75 percent stake in the Lonely Planet travel guides.

However, they did not reveal the financial aspect of this deal. Lonely Planet Founders Tony and Maureen Wheeler are keeping the remaining 25 percent stake in the company.

BBC Worldwide further said that the current management team in the company would continue to work as now.

Etienne de Villiers, non-executive chairman of BBC Worldwide added in a statement on this stake purchase: “It is testimony to BBC Worldwide’s reputation that the Wheelers believe we are the right partner to take the business forward, given the many organizations that have approached them over the years. We are all convinced that the association will strengthen Lonely Planet’s visibility and growth potential, particularly in the digital arena, as well as providing their users access to the wide range of BBC content which connects with their interests.”
