Samsung gains from improved mobile phone sales
South Korean consumer electronics maker Samsung has reported that they have achieved higher sales and profits in the July to September quarter.
The company gained mostly from their cell phone division which continues to perform well. They recently overtook Motorola to become the second largest mobile phone maker in the world.
Samsung’s operating profit was 12 percent higher than the same quarter last year at 2.1 trillion won. The sales were up 10 percent to 16.7 trillion won.
The company added that they sold a record 42.6 million cell phones during the quarter.
They are now planning to launch more 3G handsets which should further boost their popularity and sales in the market.
Chu Woosik, executive president of Samsung’s investor relations team said in a statement: “We are expecting all of our four major businesses to be running at full gear in Q4. Although the DRAM sector may still be a little slow because of supply overhang in the market but we will try to make up for the short fall.”
