Apple and Beatles are back in court
Apple Computers have had a history of conflicts with the popular Beatles group. The issue here is trademarks, as Beatles’ own company name is Apple Corp, which was registered way before Apple Computers existed.
The latest tussle has been filed by Beatles in a court in the UK. Beatles’ Apple Corps has filed a lawsuit demanding damages totaling several million pounds claiming that Apple costed them a lot by breaking a previous settlement between the two companies that restricted Apple Computer’s activities in music.
Apple Computers are more popular now for their digital music player iPod and the digital media store iTunes. The two parties had earlier signed on an agreement way back in 1989 with Apple paying Beatles a reported amount of $26 million.
Apple had also paid close to $80,000 for the rights to use the Apple name as long as it stayed out of the music business in 1981. No one had expected to see Apple dealing with digital music in those days considering the concept did not exist in those days.
