GM could start manufacturing engine and transmission parts in India
US automaker General Motors has said that they are considering plans to establish manufacturing facilities in India where they can start producing engine and transmission parts.
A company executive said in a statement: “We are evaluating setting up a manufacturing unit for powertrain products. However, the investment and the precise location of the new facility would be announced shortly.”
GM is currently getting these crucial auto parts for their cars from their global facilities in different locations of the world.
If they start manufacturing these parts in India, they would initially cater to the domestic demand.
GM is currently working on plans to launch their Chevrolet Captiva in the Indian market. This SUV would take on existing products in the segment including Honda’s CRV and Maruti Suzuki’s Grand Vitara.
