Averill: Intel considering entering Business PC platform market

Microprocessor market giants Intel is moving beyond their branded products for the consumers. The company has plans to enter the business PC platform market. The company already markets Centrino range for mobile platform, and Viiv for the home market entertainment systems.

Anand Chandrasekher said in an interview to CNet about such a possible initiative: “We’re looking at whether we should do something in that arena”. However, there was no confirmation for such a commitment.

Anand then talked about possibilities of “embedded IT” features like manageability, security, and virtualization which the company believes are essential for business computer market. Such a move would extend company’s approach, which was till some years back was limited at providing microprocessors for the computers.

Intel might be considering launching such a platform under the name Averill which might include integrated solutions powered by dual-core Conroe desktop processor with the Broadwater chipset and 1Gbps Ethernet networking. This system would feature Intel’s Active Management Technology, which include features like remote administration tasks, and Virtualization Technology.
