NTT DoCoMo in crisis over subscriber loss to rival companies
Japan allowed number portability some time ago allowing mobile users to take away their numbers to rival mobile service providers.
This decision has managed to hurt the country’s leading mobile service provider NTT DoCoMo the most.
The company admitted that they have lost about 1 million subscribers in the last year to rival companies.
NTT DoCoMo executive Kiyoyuki Tsujimura said in a statement: “We have a sense of crisis. In some months we had a net decline in subscribers.”
The other two players in the Japanese market including KDDI and Softbank. Both of these companies have launched lucrative mobile packages to lure away customers from NTT DoCoMo.
