Carrefour wants to enter Indian market by 2009
France based Carrefour Company is said to be considering plans to enter the Indian retail market by 2009.
They are already the world’s second largest retail company and they have already floated two separate units in India. These are: Carrefour WC & C India Pvt. Ltd and Carrefour India Master Franchise Co. Pvt. Ltd.
Gerard Freiszmuth, Carrefour India general manager was quoted as saying in media: “We’re talking to three very willing Indian partners who will bring dimension to the business in a country the size of India.”
The company had said earlier this year that they were delaying their plans to invest in India due to concerns over domestic political opposition to multinational retailers.
Wal-Mart is already on its way to enter the Indian market indirectly with their collaboration with Bharti.
