Samsung to invest for expanding LCD production line
South Korean tech giant Samsung has said in a statement that they are now going to invest around US$2.2 billion in a new LCD production line.
This would be invested at a plant they originally started in collaboration with Sony. Sony is not going to make any further investment.
This new line would begin production in the third quarter of next year. It would manufacture display panels 50-inches and larger for LCD TVs.
This new production line would have a monthly capacity of 60,000 panels. The two companies have not clarified why only Samsung is investing on this new line.
