AT&T to exit pay phone business

US based telecom giant AT&T has said that they are soon going to exit pay phone business. The company revealed that they would stop their operations in this segment of the market by the end of the next year.

The primary reason behind this decision is the popularity of mobile phones.

The business in this segment of the market is shrinking in the recent times. The company said that they believe that independent providers would be able to meet the existing demand in this market.

David Huntley, AT&T’s VP for customer information services added: “This is the right time for us to take this step on behalf of our customers, employees, and stockholders. We expect that independent providers will pick up much of this business, and, as we exit the business, we will be able to refocus our resources to areas that offer stronger growth potential and greater opportunity for the company.”
