AT&T to acquire networking equipment from Cisco
US based telecom giant AT&T has announced that they are going to buy networking hardware from Cisco Systems Inc.
This order would be to upgrade its Internet backbone network. The deal is a major victory for Cisco as they have managed to overcome the competition from rival company Juniper Networks.
AT&T added in a statement that they would be buying equipments like CRS-1 routers to connect Internet hubs in 25 major U.S. Cities.
John Stankey, AT&T’s group president of telecoms operations had this to say on this deal: “As the demand for Internet and IP-based applications continues to explode, IP traffic on the AT&T network has doubled throughout the past two years, and we fully expect this substantial growth to continue in the future.”
