Retail stores to sell TV converter boxes
National Telecommunications and Information Administration has stated that the retailing stores in the US market would be allowed to sell converter boxes to customers to allow them to watch digital broadcasting using their existing analog television sets.
The government would be issuing two coupons worth $40 each to buy converter boxes to households to buy these converter boxes.
The program is worth around $1.5 billion and it would be enough to fund around 33.5 million coupons.
They would be allowing retail stores like Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Circuit City, Target, Sears Holdings, Kmart, RadioShack, and some others to sell these devices.
Representative Meredith Baker added in a statement: “Over 100 retailers have been certified including a variety of small stores retail chains and these very large retailers. We have nationwide coverage with over 14,000 brick and mortar stores involved as well as with online participation.”
