Maruti aims to expand diesel model lineup
Maruti is a very small player in the diesel car segment in the Indian market. They do have the best selling Swift Diesel in their portfolio but they need more products to offer to take on the rival companies.
The company has now said that they are working on adding a new set of engines to its diesel range.
Suzuki Motor Corporation chairman Osamu Suzuki spoke on these plans: “Currently, we have the 1.3 liter multijet diesel engine being used only in Swift. We are considering more types of engine that can be introduced as there is a need to expand the diesel portfolio. Some options are being studied for smaller diesel engines.”
The diesel engine powering the Swift is also likely to be available in their upcoming Suzuki Splash model.
Suzuki is also working on their new world car A-Star which is planned to be launched with a 1.0 liter petrol engine. They might add on a diesel option to this car as well.
